Larger version of the image on which my icon is based. A larger version, still, can be found in this starter post on what will be my real-time microblog. This image serves an additional purpose: It is a deviation I was able to put into a group that needed to have something in the feed, so that Twitterfeed would have something to grab onto, at a time when my o […]
Just starting up. I'll be talking about some of the topics I've encountered on Tribe, linking into this companion journal from my main blog on Wordpress http://josephdunphy.wordpress.com/ and back, and from this journal like group of one to some of the discussions into which I've entered, on Tribe, when I discuss them here. posted in Myopic Mi […]
On this blog, I'll be writing about the new pages that I've posted to services hosted on the Google server. Knols, notebooks, etc, all of which will be linked to from my Google profile, more or less, and link back to it, functioning as extensions of it. Running this little blog is a way of giving a feed to my Google profile, one might say.Forewarni […]
Myopic Midnight Special / Joseph Dunphy posted a reply: The pool already has its first image, though the system doesn't seem convinced of this. See the second image in the pool for further explanation.
Myopic Midnight Special / Joseph Dunphy posted a new topic: Don't you love it when somebody addresses himself in the second person? Wondering if that's worse than doing so in the third? OK, here's the plan. The initial shots are technically, not going to be the best. The focus of my blog is going to be life during that time from when the sky s […]
If you are a stern and intolerant teetotaler, or an evangelistic skeptic who takes everything in life with deadly seriousness and insists that everybody else do likewise, this will not be the blog for you. Little, if any of what you read on this blog should be taken seriously, and even less literally. I'm just here to have fun.Think of somebody struggli […]
Myopic Midnight Special / Joseph Dunphy posted a new topic: It has been marked private, so the only way I can find it at the moment is through a link on my soon to vanish Mybloglog pages. It is a picture of a cupcake made to look like a cheeseburger. To be able to see it, you will need to join at least one of these groups. Flickr Today THAT's a Cake?!? […]
UPDATED I look through my old files lately and i find that one, which is very similar to one that was here before, but previously i didn't notice that little light smudge on the sky on this particular shot. I'm not sure what it is, first I thought it was just a jet or aeroplane of some sort. But that smudge appear only on that one photo, and I shoo […]

Commentary about the Obama administration's operating philosophy that might renew one's interest in American politics as it deepens one's concern, but leaves a key question unanswered and even unasked - just how democratic are the workings of a "free" market in which prices and policies are often fixed, and consumer and employee alik […]

"And perhaps some of the jaded mentality stems from those who live here who see the same booths year after year." Personally, I'd say that the "jaded mentality" of which you speak stems from the fact that the Taste offers little than fast food at high prices. It's been much ado about nothing for years, and people are finally adm […]
The Disqus comment feed is grossly malformed, and yes, I have spoken with what passes for Support at Disqus about that. All that they were willing to do was make something akin to a canned sales pitch for an unrelated product which they were trying to move. Truly pathetic.
What you'll need to do, once you arrive at the other end of one of the links in the feed, is trim off everything between the single quote and the close paranthese to the left of the hash mark (#), and then go to the resulting url. That, and uninstall Disqus from your own blogs, to spare your own visitors this kind of nonsense.
Posted to the Disqus Company blog, in response to Tyler Hayes comment on the Numbers of Disqus post, changing the subject as he replied to this comment of mine about the breakdown of the comment feeds on Disqus: What a very long way for us to have to go for you to still not get it. Or pretend that you're not getting it. Hard to be sure which. "We r […]
What a very long way for us to have to go for you to still not get it. Or pretend that you're not getting it. Hard to be sure which. "We removed the profile link from all Google profiles since we discovered that there was no way to pull in the correct link for the majority of profiles." Yes. there. is. Let the user have the freedom to enter th […]
I've since heard back from the people in Support, who weren't in the least way helpful. I've since had to post this piece of advice to visitors to my pages, when running the Disqus feed "The Disqus feed is grossly malformed, the links taking you to urls that not only don't correspond to real locations, but which probably couldn' […]
The post, which I have backed up on Blogger, just in case somebody should decide to resort to censorship, reads: In response to this post, I wrote ... Uh, huh. Before you start releasing new features, how about fixing the pre-existing features that are already broken? Like the one that supposedly allows one to link from one's Disqus profile, to one of a […]
A comment I posted to the Disqus company blog article "The Numbers of Disqus" can be found here. Summary of comment: Disqus needs to lose a little of the exuberance, and start fixing the features they already have, some of which are working very poorly, before they start talking about new features.
Uh, huh. Before you start releasing new features, how about fixing the pre-existing features that are already broken? Like the one that supposedly allows one to link from one's Disqus profile, to one of a limited number of other locations where one might have a presence, such as one's Google profile. I invite anybody reading this to go take a look […]
Below this point, the feeds you see are for other sites, that aren't part of the Myopic Midnight Special
Following up on A little reality intruding on the spin: The Star Simpson Incident: I recently came across this video on BoingBoing. A few commercials come before the interview ...... which is memorable. Let's take a good look at the "lump of putty" the Massachussetts state police reported seeing in Ms. Simpson's hands, one which she says […]
Metacafe is one of Youtube's competitors, a video hosting service that is a distant second to Youtube in popularity (if even that), which is perhaps best known for the number of women one can see naked on it without needing to log in. Having thus distinguished itself in one way, Metacafe decided to stand out in another, a few months ago. It decided to b […]
I discovered something remarkable today. For all of these ... months ... I've been under the misguided impression that I was living in and blogging from Chicago, when, in fact, I've been in Southern India the whole time. Why, you could have knocked me over with a feather, but Alexa couldn't possibly be wrong, could it? Let's take a look a […]
A first, as far as I know - a link to an image in my gallery at Flickr, from somebody else. Somebody at "Schmap" wrote to me and asked me if I would object to their inclusion of a thumbnail of the photo you see below, along with a linkback, in the fourth edition of their Chicago neighborhood guide.Of course, I was very happy to say yes, and you can […]
Referring to: this article.Having never heard of this drug or this study, I asked a retired physician in my family what he thought of both. While he wasn't familiar with either, he did raise a question. While one might, perhaps, see a reason why Bayer would, were this report accurate, want to keep the public in the dark about any corporate misdeeds, why […]
Note: I'll proofread this and fix the tenses tomorrow. I get up at before sunrise, so this is quite late for me.-----As I came back from my hike today, about 2 1/2 hours ago, I noticed that I was hearing a lot of sirens, more than I had ever heard before. Far more. Not being in the Fire Department, nor seeing any flames coming out of my building, I deci […]

Another piece, one that I'll play around with a little more, from my gallery space on DeviantArt. Let's call this one of the gifts of poverty. Maybe. What I would really like, among so many other things many of which I would like even more, is access to a darkroom, but I can't afford that, so I have to rely on Osco, which means assembly line se […]
In case anybody should later find himself wondering what a 360 blog used to look like, since they seem to be on their way out right now, clicking onto the following screen shots of my old place (Joseph Dunphy's Soapbox at its original location on Yahoo 360) might help satisfy a little curiosity. I started an add-on to my previous post with the words "On an unrelated note, let's ponder with wonder and amazement the fact that this managed to become a featured video on Youtube. Slow week, boys?", thinking that there was too little going on to justify devoting an entire post to this. How wrong I was, but this certainly isn't the firs […]

Take that title as a warning - those who don't read the preface of books won't care for this post. I probably wouldn't read it, myself, if I hadn't written it. But if you're the sort of person who likes to know what somebody is up to as he's writing something, then maybe you'll enjoy this. If so, I'm flattered by your […]

It's a page I have elsewhere that I'm finally adding some content to, hence this generally out of place image, which links to that location: The subject matter of the images on this site will be quite different.
Have you seen this, already? If so, "this link should get you to your ring, the code for those rings following below, because total webring ring navigability rocks my world. Streeterton is a northeastern suburb of Chicago, located 29 miles from Madison and State, a quaintly peaceful and surprisingly prosperous little town primarily noted for the infrequency with which it is noticed, its tranquility broken by little other than a series of much praised and occasionally attended festivals of the arts that dot its year. Long known a […]
Even under a cloud cap, I’m wasting precious daylight indoors, so I’m in a hurry to go, but Tumblr seems to want me to post something. Fine. I’ll post something. There are some social networking site providers that have recently disappointed me, some much more than others. This site will become the successor to my site at one of them. I […]

This blog is going to be about Mathematics and its applications, and little (if anything) else. I have studied this subject at the graduate level, so yes, I do know whereof I speak. As the name suggests, I take a particular interest in Probability, so you’ll most likely be seeing a lot of that subject and of statistics, but other branches of Mathematic […]
This one is about a “kinetic artist” who builds wind powered robots. Not a lot of intellectual content, this one being more a hyping of the artist than a discussion of how his pieces work, but one gets to see what he is doing and it is different, even the style of the piece almost leaves one wondering if this was cut out of an automobile commerci […]
So far, I’m just establishing my presence in the lamest of ways, using a template, but this is an unusually attractive template. What is this blog going to be about, if it is going to be at all? Probably about Mathematics, mostly recreational but some serious.I reserve the right to change my mind on this.
I recently tried to post the following comment in the Sidewiki page for Drone Zone on SomeFm. I think you will agree that this is hardly the nastiest commentary ever posted. No surprise there, I've been a fan of the channel for years. The post that my comment links to, links right back to Drone Zone, which is fitting because it is a post about Drone Zon […]
So, funny story. I have this sort of nightlife blog that I'm starting up, and one day, POOF! Only for reasons known only to the evil gods of computer science, tho […]

No, thinking about one channel ...... http://somafm.com/play/dronezone which I sometimes put on when I'm ready to go to sleep, very softly so it doesn't keep me up, and such interesting dreams I get doing that. Nothing much to say right now, just getting my sites going. If you're here because you're trying to return to your ring and don't see the links for it below, perhaps because of a recent ring merger, you need to go to the ring return page for this blog.
